OGYPEDI Group Task Government on Youth Empowerment

       Buhari

A group, Organization For Global Youth Peace, Empowerment and Development Initiative (OGYPEDI), has commended the Federal Government in its fight against corruption and insurgency in the country, just as it tasked the President Muhammadu Buhari-led government to invest in youth empowerment to engage and encourage youths at various levels of government.
The position was made yesterday by the group’s national coordinator, Emmanuel Japhet Omene in Warri at an interactive meeting of the group with some youth groups of the Niger Delta as part of activities to round up the group’s national executive three days working visit to the state.

Omene assured the youths that OGYPEDI will continue to engage the government and all concern stakeholders in the area of youth empowerment describing youth empowerment as “the gateway to intergenerational equity, civic engagement and democracy.”

The group appealed and called on the federal government to take more seriously the issue of security and youth empowerment in the country.
OGYPEDI National Public Relations Officer, Michael Ipheghe’ who commended the Federal Government’s efforts in winning the war against the insurgency, particularly, the dreaded Boko Haram sect in the North East, expressed concern that the failure of the government to find a lasting solution to the Biafran agitation, the Niger Delta Avengers unrest and the Fulani herdsmen/farmers clash in the country noted that such still pose a serious threat to the promotion and sustenance of peace in the country.

In attempt to find a lasting solution to the militancy in the Niger Delta region, the group however advocated the need for the federal government to do the needful and avoid the mistakes of past administrations where it said only few individuals and self-acclaimed stakeholders in the region were empowered and induced with money and contracts.
According to the group, “we recommend that the Federal Government swiftly embark on developmental projects and infrastructural development of the region as well as set in motion various youths empowerment and capacity developmental programs for youths in the Niger Delta region.”
